Graham Shaw, founding dentist
Dr Graham Shaw is the founding dentist at Jervois Dental. He is a leader in the world of dentistry but still manages to maintain good work-life balance.
Graham Shaw’s early years
After graduation from Otago University in 1985, Graham spent a year as dental house surgeon at Christchurch hospital. At the completion of that year he travelled to the UK for the typical Kiwi OE.
Based in London and working in Sloane Square at a private practice, Graham mixed work and travel for a few years, but the New Zealand lifestyle drew him home again.
After a few years working in a dental practice in Northcote, Graham looked for a suitable location for his own dental practice in Herne Bay.
Graham Shaw the entrepreneur
After securing a lease on the current premises in Jervois Rd, Herne Bay, Graham opened the doors for the first time on 23 May 1996. His first patient was a veneer case, and the venture was on a roll.
Initially only the front half of the house was used for the surgery, while the back half was sub-let as a 2-bedroom flat. As the practice grew more space was needed, so after gaining Council consent the rest of the house was converted and a full refurbishment carried out.
